The Terroir: A Protected Treasure between the Great Alps and the Lush Vineyards
Valle d'Aosta: The Jewel of the Alps
Located in the heart of the Alps and set between 'four large' as the Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, the Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso, Valle d'Aosta is the smallest of the regions of Italy.
Valle d'Aosta is the European region with the greatest concentration of protected areas. 13% of the total area is occupied by parks, nature reserves and oases. The largest protected area is the Gran Paradiso National Park, followed by the Mont Avic Regional Park. Orographically it is divided in two by the Dora Baltea that flows in the central valley in a west-east direction, and highlights two sides, one shady exposed to the north called envers in the local dialect, and one sunny and arid facing south called adret. In the central Valley converge about twenty lateral valleys oriented along the north-south axis.
The vine in this territory finds its ideal habitat on the ventilated terraces that extend along the central valley and climb up close to the mountain.
The Aosta Valley: production areas
Les Crêtes winery is located in Aymavilles, at the foot of Mont Blanc, with its tasting room iRifugio del Vino and its largest vineyard dominated by a medieval tower.
